Treadmills for dogs
Seeing Will Smith’s dog run on the treadmill in Francis Lawrence’s ‘I am Legend’ might have been unusual to see, in fact the cinematics of the scene suggest that it was put in just to create a little humor in the otherwise depressing beginning of the movie. However, seeing that scene made me think, is it that unusual? Will Smith is shown in a world over run by some kind of man eating zombies and apparently the guy-dog duo needs to stay fit in order to survive. Now, they could not afford to be caught in a zombie attack while taking their morning jog, could they? In that way, having a special tread mill for the dog saved their lives. Until the climax, of course.
Anyway, I came to the conclusion that it is pretty convenient. I mean, pets need exercise as much as people, right? And they face the same problems as people, for example there might not be enough room for exercise because the streets are congested, or there is no park or jogging track nearby, or the roads are really busy. It is to combat these problems that we came up with the treadmill, so man can run while not running at all. True, one of the benefits of treadmills is that fat people can run in the privacy of their homes so that no one may make fun of them. But I am certain that that stigma does not apply to dogs.
Dogs need exercise not only to stay healthy, but also to blow off some steam. Depending on the breed and age, dogs have a lot of energy. And unless that energy is spent every day doing exercise, it causes problems. Dogs tend to misbehave because of their extra energy. They will bark their heads off, dig holes in all the inconvenient places, and chew through your rug. So in order to save your rugs and pillows, it is necessary to get your dog some exercise daily.
Experts say that on average, a dog needs about an hour and a half of physical activity per day, although that varies according to the said dog’s age, breed et cetera. Now, most over protective dog owners want their dog to exercise in front of them because they just cannot let them get out of sight. In that case, having your dog run on a tread mill is extremely convenient since the owner does not have to run with the dog. He can easily be seated at the sofa having a snack. That time can also be used by the dog owner to check the dog’s way of walking in order to detect any abnormalities. In that way the idea of having dogs run on tread mills is not only plausible but also very pleasing.
Hence, tread mills for dogs is a great idea. Your dog gets exercise which is safe, regular and controlled. It will lighten his mood, promote weight regulation and keep him healthy. In a tread mill you can vary the speed and incline settings to make the experience more interesting for the dog, just like running outside would be. I would recommend that if you have a dog, get a special motorized tread mill for your dog today, and get to working out. Be sure to reward your dog with some healthy treats and loving cuddles afterwards!
